Home » Kato Glacier Express

Although both Digitrax and TCS produce a drop in decoder for Kato's Glacier Express, which is fairly straightforward to install the body shell/light guide do require a little bit of fettling so that the body shell sits back down correctly.

This information is designed to be used with the manufactures installation guide and provides supplementary details.

Before starting to remove the body, make sure you remove the jumper cable at each end, otherwise these may ping off into the unknown never to be seen again

Digitrax DN163K4A

Digitrax DN163K4A, simply requires a small amount of the body plastic used to prevent light bleed to be trimmed so that it clears the components on the circuit board.

TCS

The TCS decoder requires the light guides at each end to be trimmed down as the position of these on the replacement decoder is further forward than on the original board, in addition at the front end, the plastic that is used to help prevent light bleed also needs trimming.

Trim the plastic along with the end of the light guide.

Trim the light guide back approximately 1.5mm from the end.
