Hornby ‘00’ HST Cab Light modification

The Cab Lights on the Hornby HST are set to be permanently on when the lights are switched, this document will show what needs to be done to set these so that they are controlled via a function output on the decoder.

This modification will place the cab light on Function output 1 (Aux 1), and therefore requires a decoder with a minimum of three function outputs.

Make sure that the head, tail & cab lights are working correctly before performing this modification.

The modification is fairly straight forward, it requires moving one of the connections on the light cluster connector, remove a surface mounted resistor and adding in a pair of feed wires.

1. Move the wire on the connector from position 7 to position 4, this can be done by carefully using a thin tool, such as a knife blade to carefully lift up the retainer to remove the wire











2. On the circuit board, remove resistor marked R12


3. Now add a link wire from the output of pin 7 (common positive) of the decoder socket prior to the resistor R1.
   In addition add a wire with a 1kohm resistor to pin 3, with the other end soldered to left hand terminal in the box labelled J4 (as per the picture below green wire)


4. The Cab light is now controlled from Function output 1 (or Aux1) refer to your decoder manual as to how to configure its use.
